Will my dishwasher kill Coronavirus?

Writer: Andrea De CaprioAndrea De Caprio

Let’s begin from an important concept :

Sanitize = the killing of all living organisms

Sterilize = reduces the number of such organisms to a level considered safe for public health.

SHOULD I USE DISHWASHER TO SANITIZE?

Dishwashers are not typically designed to sterilize items within them but are extremely effective in sanitizing, to make it simple: if you can wash by hand you are not sanitizing.

Most people cannot tolerate temps above 40°C, and that’s still not hot enough to kill some of the most potent foodborne germs, like E. coli and salmonella, in order to ‘’sanitize’’ you need to reach at least 65°C (accordingly to WHO) during the final rinse.

Some (NSF for example) have even gone so far as to reach standards for sanitization by saying that a commercial dishwasher can claim it has a sanitizing cycle if a final extended hot-water rinse reaches 82°C (the machine kills 99.999 percent of bacteria)

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GERMS, BACTERIA and VIRUSES?

Germs = is a catch-all term that covers bacteria, viruses, and other microscopic particles that cause illness in humans.

Bacteria = microscopic, single-celled organisms. Many don't cause disease and are even beneficial, although some are disease-causing (pathogenic).

Virus = even smaller than bacteria. They aren't even a full cell. They are simply genetic material (DNA or RNA) packaged inside of a protein coating. They need to use another cell's structures to reproduce. This means they can't survive unless they're living inside something else (such as a person, animal, or plant).

IMPORTANT: It’s very important to note down that According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is no definitive evidence of a certain temperature that kills the Covid-19 virus; however, the ‘’common’’ flu virus dies at temperatures of 75°C and above.

HOW ARISTARCO DISHWASHERS WORKS?

The first line of defense (in this case front line of attack!) is the Thermostop Function: it’s a simple but effective automatic functionality on the dishwashers which allows the unit to begin the final rinse cycle only if the correct rinse temperature is reached: for example is the rinse temperature is settled at 85°C the machine will continue to heat the water inside the boiler until the temperature of 85°C is reached and then begin the rinse cycle.

But there is more… PREMIUM RINSE CYCLE

The Premium Rinse System consists of the combination of the atmospheric boiler (made of 316 AISI stainless steel), the break tank and the rinse pump.

This system allows the dishwasher to not depend on the pressure of the water supply therefore making it possible to function perfectly well with only 0.5 bar.

Technical advantages of the PRS System:

1. The system omits the intake of cold water into the boiler during the rinse phase, hence ensuring a constant high temperature for

the entire duration of this cycle;

2. The Rinse pump guarantees optimum

and constant pressure

to the nozzles for the whole rinse phase;

3. The boiler made of AISI 316 stainless steel is granted long life and maximum hygiene;

4. The atmospheric boiler may be emptied during extended periods of inactivity to avoid stagnating water and limescale build-up

Benefits of using the PRS system:

1. Complete and guaranteed sanitization of the dishes in every condition;

2. through residual detergent removal;

3. Fast-drying dishes;

4. Zero waste: consistent and wisest use of water and rinse chemicals.
